Artist Statement

The Realm of Manifest Light

Since my initial engagement with art, digital art has become the primary tool in my creative journey. Not stopping there, I continuously explore and apply new technologies such as video installation, light sculpture, projection mapping, AR, and VR to enrich and diversify my artistic language.

The foundation for these explorations stems from profound visual impressions from my childhood, when I accompanied my grandmother to temple ceremonies. I was captivated by how ancient religious installations utilized visual elements to construct imaginative spaces – places where people believed they could commune with the divine. For me, light is not merely an aesthetic element, but a powerful medium for storytelling, an entity capable of both instilling awe and commanding submission. From the candlelight and sacred fires of the past to the electronic lights and vibrant LED displays of the present, religious rituals in Vietnam have always been adorned with multi-colored light, creating majestic illusions for deities and depicting the invisible energy fields emanating from Buddha statues. Through my artistic practice, I consistently seek to integrate these materials of traditional culture and religion into new contexts of contemporary society, initiating new dialogues and reflections.
A significant source of inspiration for this connection comes from the field of VJing. I recognized a fascinating similarity between the layout of an electronic music stage and religious altars: a central figure (DJ/deity) elevated to the highest position, attracting all focus; behind them, light installations with mesmerizing visual effects; sound enveloping the space; and an fervent, devoted crowd below. This sense of parallelism has continually driven me to incorporate cultural and religious concepts into my performances and art installations.

To realize these ideas, I utilize a diverse range of tools and techniques, from computer graphics and film to interactive performances with volumetric visuals, real-time generative visuals, and projectors. I am constantly experimenting, combining ideas with different materials, aiming to unlock new possibilities in using visuals and light as my primary language of expression.

With a solid foundation in traditional painting, I continuously develop those values by integrating them with modern materials and advanced imaging technologies. My goal is to continue forging distinct values, pushing the boundaries of visual experience, and bringing fresh perspectives to contemporary art.
